Winter Skin Care Routine

During winter my skin tends to get really dry, and my lips. To keep from getting that scaley peeling snake skin and mega chapped bleeding lips, I use two  life saving products: organic coconut oil and vaseline. Believe it or not, I keep my skin care routine pretty simple and basic. As high maintenance as some of my outfits and makeup seem to appear.

Even in high school I used to just rinse my face with water before going to bed. But times have changed, and as I got older I realized I need to step my game up before years of neglecting my skin catches up to me. Plus, more recently I’ve noticed my skin becoming duller and my lips getting chapped more easily so naturally I turned to the inter webs for the most natural skin care products.

Before going to bed I take a tsp full of coconut oil, rub it between my hands and massage it onto my face in circular motions to get my blood circulation flowing in my face.

I’m no doctor or expert  but you can read about the benefits of coconut oil on the skin from the website below, which seems like a reliable source.

  • The sebum-filled whiteheads may enlarge to become acne vulgaris, with bacteria proliferating in the trapped sebum. Propionibacterium acnes which normally reside in the follicles multiply quickly, filling the acne with pus and making way for secondary infections by other bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis. Using coconut oil regularly, for both moisturizing and deep cleansing, can keep the bacterial populations under control.
  • Even fine wrinkles can mar the youthful look of facial skin. Coconut oil can preserve the smoothness of the face by keeping it wrinkle-free. Collagen, a structural protein in the inner layers of skin, is what keeps the skin elastic and smooth. It may breakdown due to the effect of UV rays, pollution, smoking, and physical injuries. Replacement of collagen is necessary to counteract the effects of its breakdown.
  • Premature aging of the skin is a result of oxidation stress due to UV rays, environmental pollution, and injuries caused to the skin by rough handling and use of harsh chemicals. It goes without saying that facial skin is the most affected because it is exposed to the environment all the time. Coconut oil can prevent premature aging in several ways. It is gentle on the skin as a moisturizer and exfoliates without abrading the skin. When applied in a thin layer, it can act as a physical barrier to dust and other environmental pollutants, while sealing in skin moisture. Its antioxidant action reduces oxidative damage. It keeps the skin smooth and supple by promoting collagen formation.

You can get this 29 oz jar for 25$.

Before going to bed I always lather a good amount of vaseline on my lips in order to keep them baby bottom soft. If I go a night without it my lips get extremely dry and cracked. There’s no rhyme or reason for what kind you choose, but I like cocoa butter simply because it smells amazing.

You can buy this 7.5 oz jar for 3.49$
